Our teaching team at Highlands is one of the major reasons for our continued success. Dedicated professionals who enjoy their work, these individuals bring years of experience and learning to provide a caring and healthy preschool environment for your child.

We offer a ratio of supervision above standards set out by the Child Care Licensing Regulations. Our classes are staffed by two Licensed ECE (Early Childhood Educators) for every 17 children in each class of 3 and 4-year-old students. Our 2-year-old program provides 2 ECE teachers to each class of 8 children.

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM OUR TEACHERS:

As dedicated teachers at Highlands, our qualifications and experience provide the school with a vast range of expertise and knowledge in the early childhood field. Every teacher in the school holds a valid ECE teaching certificate and are first aid trained. In addition to this some have Bachelor of Arts Degrees in various fields including Early Childhood Studies and Psychology. There are also individuals who are fully qualified elementary school teachers. In addition to all of this we continue our professional development through taking courses and workshops throughout the year. These mainly focus on HighScope philosophies and any personal areas of interest within the educational field.

We all really enjoy working at Highlands and this is reflected in our continuous commitment to the school. In total our staff have 52 years of combined employment at Highlands Preschool, ranging from a lengthy 16 years to new teachers who are in their first year of joining our teaching team.

Due to our immense diversity, we collaboratively bring fresh new ideas to the programs as well as tried and tested favourites. There is a high level of energy and we as teachers are constantly brain storming to provide the best education that we can.

We feel extremely supported within our environment because of our strong teaching team and dedicated Board of Directors.

HighScope is a highly respected teaching philosophy and we are privileged to be able to provide our students with such a rich learning curriculum. Through the HighScope program we are able to foster individual children’s curiosity and creativity. One of the main reasons we, as teachers, enjoy teaching HighScope, is the active learning aspect. Active learning provides the children with hands on experiences that we can expand upon and facilitate each child’s personal development. Plus, through the active learning environment, children are constantly using the HighScope problem solving techniques to solve their own problems and take control of their own choices. This all develops our student’s independence and self confidence and gets them well prepared for the transition to Kindergarten!
